About Nya
Since my first encounter with Crayola crayons, I knew art would always be a part of my life. As a self taught artist, through the years I dabbled in many areas of creativity, from simple sketching to designing weddings and anything in between.
Recently, due to illness, I have found myself with much more time to dedicate to my craft. This extra time and my new outlook on life with Lupus gave me the freedom to experiment and try new things. I wasn't as afraid of making mistakes. I knew I couldn't waist another moment doubting my ability. For the first time I made painting my medium of choice. Something I wanted to do but didn't have the patience to follow through. Now I love it. My confidence grows with every piece created. Every blank canvas becomes a symbol of endless possibility and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Aspiration...
Despite living most of my life in a very small state, I have always dreamed big! Even when being an artist was frowned upon, I knew that living a creative life was the only way for me to be happy. Though I realize now with a chronic illness, some things may be harder to achieve, I believe having positive goals and ideas has kept me healthier than others in my position. My hope is to not only be a painter, but to continue to explore different ways of creating. Whether it be mixed media, furniture, jewelry, fashion, etc. and hopefully use my story to be an inspiration to others.
Goals...
Keeping an open mind has led me to new places with my work I didn't even think to explore before. In 2013 I was involved in a few local group art shows. After getting a taste of showing my work publicly with positive feedback, I started to explore even bigger opportunities. In March 2014 I was invited to participate in my first major juried show in the city of Boston. Now I am on a mission to showcase in other major cities across America as well. But of course, with Lupus, I will take it one step at a time
Multi talented...
Along with being a visual artist, I am also a poet. Though many times I have struggled to balance both talents evenly, I have occasionally matched my poetry to a piece of art or vice versa. My goal is to do even more ekphrastic poetry and to share these collaboration pieces with my audience in the near future. I'm already on my way!
Thank you for your interest in my work.
I hope you enjoy my art as much as I love to create it!
